Day In The Life of an Accounting Student at Eclipse LLP

Have you ever wondered what the life of an accounting student is really like? Buckle up! Here’s an inside look into a typical day filled with numbers, deadlines, and a dash of caffeine (well, sort of). Here’s a peek behind the curtain of a busy accounting day!

7:55 AM – Office Bound

I roll into the office, ready for the madness to begin. Gone are the days of rushing to grab a coffee at my favourite café. With a “new year, new me” mindset, I’ve decided to hold off on caffeine until after lunch. Can I make it? Time will tell, but I’m feeling optimistic (for now).

8:00 AM – Let the Work Begin

Now, it’s time for the real fun to start, or more accurately, the chaos to begin. It’s time to dive into the files, balance the books, and tackle those reports. For an accounting student, this is the heart of the day. There’s something oddly satisfying about transforming chaos into order, whether I’m reconciling financial statements, analyzing data, or double-checking figures. It’s mental gymnastics at its finest—no two days are the same. Some might say it’s not glamorous, but hey, who needs glamour when you’re essentially playing detective with Excel as your sidekick?

10:15 AM – Coffee Break

Before I know it, the clock strikes “coffee break,” and the office gathers for a quick morning catch-up. For the lucky ones, it’s already time for their second cup of coffee—fueling conversations and the day ahead.

12:00 PM – Lunch Time

It’s that glorious time of day to take a real break—eat some lunch and maybe even sneak in a few errands. I long for the warm summer days, when I can take long walks in the sun for a much-needed mid-day reset.

1:00 PM – Back to the Grind

With a full stomach and a newfound sense of determination, I’m back at it. The first half of the day was productive, but there’s still plenty to do. Only 7/15th of the workday is left (my brain reads clocks and times in fractions; is that an accountant thing??) Time to wrap up that T2 Return, prep client letters, finalize notes, and—oh, I almost forgot—send the whole thing to a partner for review. The hours fly by, but the sweet reward of ticking off tasks from my to-do list makes it all worthwhile.

Oh, and did I mention that I finally got my first dose of caffeine after lunch? Whether it’s a crisp iced chai or a fizzy Alani energy drink, this is the highlight of my afternoon

3:15 PM – Coffee Break

My personal favourite time of the day has arrived—coffee break! Not only do I get to indulge in coffee, but when I return to my desk, there’s just 1/7th of the workday left. Yay!

4:30 PM – That’s a Wrap (for today)

And just like that, the final stretch of the day arrives. Sure, the to-do list is still long, and tomorrow’s mountain of tasks is looming, but for today, I’ve accomplished what needed to be done. I gather my things, power down my computer, and exchange a few goodbyes with my colleagues. There’s something uniquely satisfying about closing up shop at the end of the day—no matter how hectic it was, I can always count on having tackled at least one task and learned something new in the process.

Thanks for reading and getting a glimpse into the day of an accounting student. Until next time—here’s to making it through the day, one task at a time!
